Sunday Morning

Darkroom notes

Notes from re-doing the darkroom in the back room this spring, mostly so we remember what we did.

The safelight was the expensive mistake. We bought a bright one, assuming more light meant easier work. It fogged a whole box of paper before we worked out why. The replacement is dimmer than seemed reasonable and everything has been fine since.

Water temperature matters more than any of the guides suggest, and less than the people in forums insist. We settled on twenty degrees and stopped measuring after the first month.

The best change was the least technical one: a shelf at elbow height for wet prints. Two years of putting them on the floor, and it never occurred to us.
